The long-term series Self-Portraits of Dita Pepe, which deals with questions of identity, has been expanded by a series of portraits in Taiwan. The Self-Portrait project has been in progress since 1999. It includes over 100 photographs taken in the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Poland, Italy, Japan, and Africa. The resulting photographs from Taiwan were created during a period of three weeks this year. In 2026, this project will be expanded to include photographs from Spain. Through this work, she aims to highlight the fragility and perception of who we are. That we are largely determined by the time, place, culture, and relationships into which we are born. However, we can find inspiration for other life concepts through encounters and getting closer to other people. In sharing intimacy, listening, and developing mutual empathy.
The impulse for initiating the realization of the project in Taiwan came from an invitation of Ming-Chang Tien, Art director of Good Underground Art Space and Professor of National Dong Hwa University. Within the framework of an artist residency from Good Underground Art Space. The Artist
